One Nation One Ration Card for migrants
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that there will be One Nation One Ration Card throughout the country by the end of this financial year. With this card, anyone can avail ration at any area in the country including states and UTs irrespective of their residence.
Sitharaman revealed the second tranche of ₹20 lakh crore financial package of the Centre yesterday.
This time, she focused on migrant workers, small farmers and traders, self-employed people, tribal people and street workers.
Here are the highlights:
- Finance Minister said that universal ration card will be provided to workers to get ration anywhere in the country. The rolling out of this process is almost finished. And it will be completed by March 2021.
- In this One Nation One Ration Card, Aadhaar card numbers of all the family members will be added. If a migrant worker is in one area and his family is in another part of the country, then they can divide the ration and avail it to that extent in both places.
- Food grains like rice, wheat, and chana will be distributed to all workers and non-cardholders can also avail this facility for the next 3 months.
- Affordable rental housing scheme has been announced. Affordable homes will be constructed under PM Awas Yojana for poor and migrants on a PPP basis.
- Small loans of up to ₹50,000 can be availed under MUDRA Yojana at 2 per cent interest subversion rate.
- Special credit facility worth ₹5,000 crores will be provided for street vendors.
- ₹600 crore fund is allocated to boost the work of the tribal sector.
- An additional amount of ₹30,000 crores under NABARD will be provided to small and marginal farmers.
- 25 lakh new Kisan cards have been given in the last two months to benefit more farmers, fishermen and animal husbandry workers.
