Prakash Javadekar, the Minister of Human Resource Development, has just made an official announcement about the opportunities to take the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Javadekar has announced that both JEE Main and NEET will be held twice a year in online mode, starting in 2019.

Currently, the nodal agency that is responsible for conducting both JEE Main and NEET is the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Both JEE Main and NEET will be held by the new National Testing Agency (NTA).

The NTA was recently formed as a new examination conducting agency. From now on, the NTA will be responsible for conducting both JEE Main and NEET, along with several other important examinations.

The NTA will now also conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET), the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), and the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT).

NET will be conducted in December of this year. Therefore, NET will be the first examination to be conducted by the recently-formed NTA. Javadekar has said that all of these competitive exams will be held on multiple dates. The JEE Main exams will now be held in both January and April. The NEET exams will now be held in both February and May.

Javadekar said that the candidates who will appear for these examinations will be permitted to choose the best score from the tests in the counselling process.

Although there will be many changes to how the examinations will be held, Javadekar said that the question formats, language, syllabus, and fees for the tests will not be changed.

However, the tests will now be more secure. They will also be at par with international norms. Therefore, these changes will not alter the core of the examinations, but they will give students more opportunities to perform their best.
