Modi wants electoral reforms
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that electoral reforms must happen and that it will strengthen democracy of the country. Modi, who was addressing the BJP’s National Council meeting said that this is the right time to bring electoral reforms in the centenary year of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He said that seminars can be organized across the country on electoral reforms.
Talking about the reforms, he said that everyone should be at least discussing ideas regarding the issue and see what comes of it. Modi said that electoral reforms will strengthen the roots of democracy. There will be some things to add and some things to delete which are obsolete in the electoral procedures, he said.
Modi added that even members from other political parties wanted to have electoral reforms. He said that it is better to have changes coming from a proper brainstorming.
The Prime Minster has so far called for electoral reforms at least three times. He even asked for simultaneous parliamentary and state assembly elections, in the country.
Talking to the BJP CMs, Modi asked them to fix common targets for Aadhar-linked central schemes. He asked them to be a good example of implementation of ‘pro-poor’ schemes.
Modi wanted the states to think of inter-linking Aadhar-related welfare schemes to easily give its benefits. He said that these states should have ownership of central schemes. In order to finalize the agenda for welfare of poor people in BJP ruled states, Modi said a committee would be formed.
Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the PM wants them to work mission oriented so that multiple works can be taken up at the same time and develop the states faster.
BJP president Amit Shah also asked the CMs to put more focus on the pro-poor agenda and create a ‘welfare state’ for the poor population.
