The kin of an employee working in the housekeeping department at Rashtrapati Bhavan has tested positive for COVID-19.

A relative of a sanitation worker has tested positive. Even though she is not an employee there, she resides in that complex.

Immediately after that, authorities put around 115 families under self-isolation.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan spreads over 330 acres and around 1,000 families reside in it. These families engage in several activities including the maintenance of the palace and rooms, central lawn and halls.

Initially, a person from Central Delhi was detected with COVID-19. The person was not a resident of the President’s Estate and an employee there. But the patient was the relative of the employee of the President’s Secretariat.

The patient died on April 13, 2020. While tracing the contacts of the deceased, it was found that a family member of an employee of President’s Secretariat had contacted the deceased patient.

Hence, the employee along with the family had been shifted to a quarantine facility. Later, the family member who had been in contact with the deceased person tested positive for coronavirus while the remaining family members including the employee of the President’s Secretariat have been tested negative.

As per the guidelines under the Disaster Management Act, 115 houses have been kept under self-isolation after this. These families are advised to remain indoors and the residents will be provided with essential commodities at their doorsteps.

Coronavirus cases crossed 19,000 in India. In Delhi, the cases crossed 2,000. Delhi has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in the country after Maharashtra.
