Devotees observe fast during Navratri seeking divine blessings. Navratri fasting has different variations. While some people drink only water during their fast, some others eat fruits.

Certain food items are restricted during Navratri. So, people consume some food items like milk, fruits and dairy products.

They suffer a lot during their journey due to restricted diets during the festival. In this context, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is going to introduce a special menu for passengers on their journey during Navratri.

Passengers can order this special food directly from their seats during their journey. IRCTC will serve special Navratri food for people on trains from April 2. The booking for this service starts from March 28, i.e. today.

Passengers can choose fasting thali from March 28 while booking tickets. However, passengers who had booked their tickets earlier and wanted fasting thali can book the special food on the phone number – 1323.

Indian Railways assures that the food will be cooked without using onion or garlic. Instead of normal salt, rock salt will be used in the preparation of this special food.

The menu will have fresh juice, lassi, vegetables and fruits, tea, puri and curry, buckwheat pakoras, sabudana ki khichdi, milk-based sweets, and dry fruit kheer.

The IRCTC offers four different types of thalis to cater to the needs of various people. The price of thali varies from ₹125 to ₹200.

This special food will be served in 500 trains, including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto. The facility will be available only for the passengers on trains, but not at the stalls at railway stations.
