India’s longest bridge inauguration today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government completed three years at the Centre. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the longest bridge of the country today in Assam.

The bridge, Dhola-Sadiya Bridge is on the Brahmaputra River. It is more than nine kilometers long and it connects Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

It is the fourth bridge on the Brahmaputra River.

The construction of Dhola-Sadiya Bridge began in 2011 under the leadership of the Congress party. Though the initial target date for the completion of the bridge is December 2015, the construction was prolonged for over a year which increases costs as well. This project costs ₹950 crore.

Sadiya in Assam is an isolated town as it is bounded by three rivers, Lohit, Brahmaputra and Dibang. Hence, it has poor communication and transportation. But with this new bridge, they will improve in the town.

As the bridge connects Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and with the inauguration of the bridge, the travel time will be reduced by four hours between the two states.

The Dhola-Sadiya Bridge will improve the communication in North East regions. Mainly the army will benefit by this bridge as it reduced their travel time from Assam to the border regions. Hence, the bridge significantly boost the capabilities of defence in the North East region.

The bridge will also improve transportation facilities. It is said that the bridge is able to withstand the weight of a 60-tonne battle tank.

The bridge will also boost the mobilization capabilities of Indian Army and their troops to carry heavy equipment to the areas that are bordering China.

PM will also address the nation from Guwahati. Assam takes this as a great privilege as it is hosting a remarkable event to mark a significant event.

He will also lay the foundation stone of the proposed buildings in Assam.
