India extends lifeline to Gaza with humanitarian aid amidst crisis

In response to the deepening crisis in Gaza, India has offered a compassionate hand by dispatching essential humanitarian aid, underscoring its commitment to provide relief.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has played a pivotal role in this mission, ensuring the swift delivery of critical supplies.

The aid comprises life-saving medicines, surgical equipment, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins etc. In addition, sanitary utilities and water purification tablets are also destined for Gaza via Egypt’s Rafah Crossing Point.

A remarkable 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief materials have been loaded onto an IAF C-17 flight, en route to Egypt’s El-Arish airport.

From there, the Egyptian Red Crescent will take charge, ensuring its passage into Gaza.

Adnan Abu Al-Haija, the Palestinian envoy, expressed profound gratitude to the Indian government for this timely support. He emphasized the dire need for such assistance due to the acute humanitarian crisis in the region.

After 15 days of a complete blockade on vital supplies such as food, medicine etc. the aid from India offers a ray of hope.

He also stressed the importance of coupling humanitarian support with political efforts.

Recognizing India’s amicable relations with both Palestine and Israel, he urged a concerted global endeavour to halt the ongoing conflict.

Expressing his concerns about the scale of the crisis, Al-Haija pointed out that the initial aid, consisting of 20 trucks, is insufficient for Gaza’s population of 2.3 million.

He underscored the necessity of international pressure on Israel and the need to break the siege for prompt and extensive humanitarian aid distribution.

India’s humanitarian gesture stands as a testament to its commitment to alleviating the suffering in Gaza. At the same time, the world watches with hope for an end to the conflict and a brighter future for the people of this embattled region.
