India aims to reduce 33-35% of carbon emissions
According to the target submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention (UNFCCC) on Climate Change for a global climate pact, India has set a target to reduce the intensity of its carbon emissions by 33-35 per cent by 2030. The country is looking forward to increasing the usage of renewable energy capacity to 40 per cent.
India announced that the target is to make sure that around 40 per cent cumulative electric power installed capacity will be from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.
India gave a 38-page document to the United Nations Framework Convention (UNFCCC) on Climate Change for a global climate pact. In the document, India said its actions in climate change adaptation like the setup of its own National Adaptation Fund will drive the commitment to reach the target.
India which is working towards low carbon emission stated that the INDC submitted is fair and ambitious. India now aims to meet head on with all the developmental challenges.
The Copenhagen pledge by India to reduce 20-25 per cent intensity of greenhouse gas emission by 2020 will hold well along with this long term plans. The developmental plans by India will maintain a good balance between economic development and environment.
The current policy framework for developing the country will be focusing well on environment in order to increase usage of renewable energy, lower carbon emissions, form sustainable development pathways and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
While commenting on its submission, India said that they have planned to do their highest possible effort which is evident from the various government initiatives. India also has the right to make additional submissions on INDC when they are required. In order to implement these adaptive actions India would require a budget of USD 206 billion between 2015 and 2030.
