New app to forecast air pollution in Delhi and Pune

The earth sciences ministry of India has launched the first air quality mobile application of India. It provides the forecast for air quality and related advisories in real time. The application is only available for only Delhi and Pune. It is only for Android users at present. The SAFAR-AIR will provide data for present time forecast and also one to three day forecast. It will provide data in the format of a colour coded system which indicates air quality. Having red colour indicates very poor quality.

The app was developed by scientists at the Pune based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology which had earlier designed the country’s first air quality forecasting scheme – System for Air Quality Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) – and it can be downloaded from the official site for free. The app is also available on the Google Play Store and in the ministry’ website.

The users of Delhi and Pune will be the first to get the service. They would now be able to plan their personal outdoor activities based on the forecasts and advices from the app.
