IMA holds All-India strike today
The attack on junior doctors in Kolkata turned the protest of doctors statewide which thereby led to the strike of doctors nation-wide.
The doctors across various states of the country joined in the protest to express their solidarity with the doctors that were attacked by the relatives of a patient after his death.
A three-day Pan-India protest began on Friday and it has been finished by Sunday.
The doctors are not satisfied with the efforts of the state government stating that their demands were completely ignored by them.
They said that the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee did not take any initiatives to address their issues but just appealed them to resume duty.
Hence, they denied her appeal and are continuing their protest.
In this context, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) decided to hold a one-day nationwide protest today.
All the non-essential services including OPDs will be affected due to this strike since the morning. Only emergency services and causality will continue as usual.
The IMA also decided to stage a ‘dharna’ in Delhi from 10:00 a.m.
Last Saturday, Mamata Banerjee said that she had accepted the demands of the doctors. She does not want to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) Act and hence is appealing the doctors to resume duty.
She also said that ministers and principal secretary went to meet the doctors and waited for 5 hours. But, none of the doctors met them to solve the problems.
On the other hand, the doctors said that the claims of the CM are rubbish as few of them have visited her at the secretariat.
They also added that the government is not focusing on their demands and overlooked them.
