Highlights of Didi’s meeting with doctors

A meeting was held between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the agitating doctors at the state Secretariat, Nabanna.

As per the demand of the doctors, a local coverage media channel, ABP Ananda was allowed to the meeting.

Didi said that the meeting was successful. Even the doctors who joined the meeting said that they were satisfied with the result of the meeting.

Here are the highlights of the meeting:


  • In addition to 31 junior doctors, Health Secretary, MoS Chandrima Bhattacharya and other state officials were also present in the meeting.
  • Initially, the CM denied holding the meeting in the presence of media as she was not comfortable with it.
  • But, later the government agreed to it and allowed two regional news channels to cover the meeting.
  • The doctors who participated in the meeting said that they are working in an environment of fear and they demanded strong legal policy for assaults against them.
  • Mamata Banerjee directed Kolkata Police commissioner Anuj Sharma to deploy a nodal police officer in every hospital.
  • Public Relations team will be established in state hospitals to communicate with patients.
  • The CM also agreed to the proposal of establishing Grievance Redressal Cell in Government Hospitals.
  • She assured to make necessary amendments in the clinical establishment act. These amendments will be tabled in the upcoming assembly session.
  • The CM also said that no doctor has been booked by the state government.
  • She added that five people involved in the attack at NRS hospital were already caught by the government and the government assured the doctors that proper steps have been taken by it.
  • The CM also asked the doctors to make concrete plans and measures they want in government hospitals to improve security.
