IKEA to open its first mall in Gurgaon

IKEA opened its first store in India in Hyderabad in 2018. Now, it announced the launching of a shopping centre in Gugugram. It will be the first mall of the company in India.

Yesterday, Ingka Centres revealed its plans to expand its business in India. Ingka Centres is owned by Ingka group. It includes IKEA Retail and Ingka Investments. It owns many IKEA stores across the globe.

Ingka Centres said that the cost of the project would be around $450 million. The company bought a plot in Gurugram to start construction in early 2022. The construction will be completed by 2025. The new mall will generate over 2500 jobs in the country.

The company wants to improve its business in the country and aims to capture the major share of the market.

In this context, the CEO and CSO of IKEA India, Peter Betzel, said that an IKEA store would be launched, along with Ingka Centres.

The malls business of IKEA is one of the biggest in the world. Ingka Centres has 47 malls. These shopping malls are called meeting places by the company.

The mall or meeting place of Ingka Centres offers hospitality, food and beverages. It also will be a great place for edutainment.

Earlier, Ingka Centres bought a plot in Noida. However, the company announced its first mall in the country would be in Gurugram. As Delhi NCR market is one of most important for the company, it would open a store at Noida after Gugugram.

The location of the proposed mall is connected to public transport. City authorities planned to open a nearby metro line, and with this, the access to this place will be improved further.

Haryana state government welcomed the decision of Ingka Centres and IKEA and assured its support to the company.
