Free precaution doses to be given to all adult citizens soon
The central government earlier recommended a booster or precaution dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all adult citizens in the country. However, many citizens have not come forward to get a booster dose.
Currently, the number of Covid cases are cases is rising in the country. In this context, the government decided to provide free precaution doses to citizens in the age group of 18-59 years.
For this, a special drive will be initiated from July 15. The free doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available at government centres.
The special drive is aimed to boost the uptake of precaution doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. It will be initiated as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which intends to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.
As per sources, very few people in the 18-59 age group have received the precaution dose. That is less than 1 per cent. That is less than 1 per cent. On the other hand, the percentage of people above 60 years who have been administered the precaution dose is around 26 per cent. Also, healthcare and frontline workers received the precaution dose.
Many Indians received their second dose around nine months ago. As per studies, a booster dose improves the antibody level in the blood as well as the immune response of a person to the disease.
Hence, the government is planning to initiate a special drive for administering free COVID-19 vaccines to citizens in the age group of 18-59 years at government centres.
Currently, ‘Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0’ is going on in the country. This two-month program aims at providing vaccine coverage to all eligible people through door-to-door campaigns. It will continue till 31st July 2022. As per government data, 87 per cent of the people in the country have taken both doses of the vaccine.
