Delhi’s Air Quality Index crosses 700

National Capital Delhi is in an emergency condition as the Air Quality Index (AQI) crosses 700 in several areas.

Even though Delhi government is implementing the odd-even rule, there is no drop in air pollution.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) revealed that the AQI in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 8 was registered at 930 and several other areas like Rohini, Okhla, Ashok Vihar and Pragati Vihar crossed 700 mark.

Not only Delhi, but its neighbouring cities also recorded poor air quality. It crossed 600 in Noida Sector 125 and reached nearly 500 in many areas of Ghaziabad.

While the odd-even scheme completed on Friday in Delhi as proposed earlier, the Delhi government had not decided on continuing it further.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the government do not want people to undergo inconvenience and a final decision would be taken about extending it on Monday.

He also said that stubble burning is worsening the air quality in Delhi. Yet, the rains in Punjab and Haryana slightly reduced the pollution.

The Supreme Court said that the implementation of the odd-even rule is not a long-term solution for air pollution. It is half-baked and affected middle and lower-class people.

The rich people are not affected by the scheme as they own many cars to use as per the situation.

The apex court also expressed its concern on stubble burning.

Considering poor air quality in Delhi, schools had been closed until yesterday. Due to increasing pollution, the schools in Uttar Pradesh also remained shut.

Most of the Delhites are suffering from breathing problems, sore throat, itchy eyes, and dry cough due to consecutive enclosure of toxic smog in the surroundings.

Meanwhile, some school children wrote letters to PM Modi to intervene urgently to alleviate the air-pollution crisis that led to an emergency condition in the region.
