In order to sync with international fuel prices, Indian government proposed to revise their prices daily starting from June 16. This process has been employed in most advanced countries.

The fuel prices has been revised on 1st and 16th of every month at present in India considering the average international price of the fuel in the preceding fortnight and currency exchange rate.

Earlier in the month of May, 2017, it was successfully tested as a pilot project in five cities, Chandigarh, Puducherry, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Udaipur in Rajasthan and Vizag in Andhra Pradesh. Later it was decided to apply it to all the 58,000 petrol pumps in the country.

As per the decision, all the petrol pumps revise petrol and diesel prices daily from tomorrow onwards.

The revision of prices will be based on the fluctuations of international oil prices and the variations in foreign exchange rates. The daily prices will be updated automatically centrally apart from scheduling the changed prices at 00:00 hours using technology.

The state owned Indian Oil Corporation has argued that it will guarantee the best possible prices to customers since the price variation is in few paisa per litre.

The decision of daily revision has received protests from petroleum dealers. They argue that they are not ready for the proposed process and only half of the petrol pumps are automated. It is difficult for manual operations.

To protest the decision, the dealer group has called for “no-purchase” from tomorrow onwards.

The variation of prices change with each city and petrol pump based on the marginal different pricing.

As per the companies, dealers will confirm price update each day at their fuel stations before staring their sale. These prices can be exhibited at the petrol pumps for the public.

Consumers can get price updates on their mobile as well. Customers can cross check the prices applicable in their cities by sending SMS to 92249-92249 and 9223112222 stating RSP<SPACE>DEALER CODE for Indian Oil petrol pumps and Bharat Petrol pumps.

If it is Hindustan Petroleum, you can send SMS on HPPRICE < SPACE > DEALER CODE to 9222201122.

Dealer code can be obtained from the petrol pump as it will be displayed.

They can also install a mobile app of Indian Oil, – Fuel@IOC, BP – SmartDrive – and HP- My HPCL to get daily updates of prices.
