Chandrayaan-2 to be relaunched before July-end
India’s second mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan-2 was called off on July 15 due to a technical glitch.
Now, the reports say that the aborted mission would be relaunched in this month itself before the month-end. Some sources state that it would be on July 22.
Initially, the launch of Chandrayaan-2 was scheduled for 2:51 a.m. on July 15. However, it was called off just 56 minutes before its lift-off.
At that time, officials said that the launch was called off due to a technical snag and the new launch schedule would be announced later.
A statement was released on that day stating that the Chandrayaan-2 was called off as a measure of precaution due to the finding of a technical snag in it.
Though the exact date is not confirmed, the launch is likely to be in this month as per one of the officials of ISRO. He also said that a committee is investigating for the reason of what exactly went wrong.
If not in July, the next launch window will be in September for Chandrayaan-2.
At first, the launch was scheduled in the first week of January which was then shifted to July 15.
It was also said that the reason for choosing the odd timing of early morning and the date was to make sure of the rocket’s precision entry into the lunar orbit.
The former ISRO chief in this regard stated that Chandrayaan-1 also had experienced a similar problem, yet, the scientists identified the error so that mission could be take off as planned on the same day.
Chandrayaan-1 was successful by detecting water in vapour form on the lunar surface.
As the entire country is waiting for Chandrayaan-2, the successor to Chandrayaan-1, the scheduled launch has yet to be announced officially.
