India’s first private rocket to be launched soon
India is going to launch its first privately developed rocket soon. The rocket Vikram S is all set for its launch this month. The rocket is likely to be launched between November 12 and 16.
Here are some important details about India’s first privately developed rocket, Vikram S:
Vikram S has been developed by Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based space startup. The startup builds space launch vehicles for launching commercial satellites.
The startup successfully tested a fully3D-printed rocket engine in November 2021. In addition, it also built Kalam-100, a solid fuel engine and successfully conducted a static fire test in May 2022.
Skyroot Aerospace named launch vehicles after Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of the Indian space programme.
The rocket will be launched from Sriharikota this month. It will carry three customer payloads. The final date of launching will be announced by authorities based on weather conditions.
The mission is named Prarambh. The central union government opened up the space sector for private industry participation in 2020.
With the launch of the rocket, Skyroot will become the first private space company in the country that launches a rocket into space.
The startup claims that it built the Vikram-S rocket and got it ready for the mission in a short time. It acknowledged ISRO and IN-SPACe for their support in this regard.
Skyroot Aerospace built the rocket as part of the Vikram series. The rocket is a single-stage sub-orbital launch vehicle. It will carry three customer payloads, but their names have not known. The rocket will help test the technologies in the series of space launch vehicles.
Suborbital flights are useful for conducting tests of space missions at a lower altitude, i.e. a height of around 100 km from the surface of the Earth. They are used to test before conducting final commercial missions.
