ISRO to launch Chandrayaan-3 on July 14

India’s upcoming lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is set to launch on July 14 at 2:35 pm from Sriharikota.

This mission follows the Chandrayaan-2 mission and aims to showcase India’s capability for safe landing and roving on the moon’s surface.

Chandrayaan-3 consists of a lander and rover configuration, and it will be launched by the Launch Vehicle Mark-III from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

The propulsion module of Chandrayaan-3 will carry the lander and rover configuration to a lunar orbit of 100 km.


It is equipped with the Spectro-Polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload, which will enable the study of spectral and polarimetric measurements of Earth from the lunar orbit.

This scientific payload will provide valuable insights into our planet.

The indigenous Lander module (LM) of Chandrayaan-3 can perform a soft landing at a specific lunar site.

Once landed, it will deploy the Rover, which will conduct an in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface as it moves around.

Both the Lander and Rover carry scientific payloads to perform experiments and gather data on the moon’s surface.

The Propulsion Module (PM) plays a crucial role in Chandrayaan-3. Its main function is to transport the Lander module from the launch vehicle injection to the final lunar orbit of 100 km.

Once the desired orbit is reached, the LM will separate from the PM. Additionally, the PM also includes a scientific payload that will be operational after the separation of the Lander Module.

The chosen launcher for Chandrayaan-3 is the GSLV-Mk3, which will place the integrated module in an elliptic parking orbit (EPO) with dimensions of approximately 170 x 36,500 km.

This strategic orbit is a crucial step in the mission’s trajectory.

Chandrayaan-3 represents India’s commitment to exploring the moon and advancing scientific knowledge.

With its advanced technology and scientific payloads, this mission will contribute to our understanding of the lunar surface.
