Border talks between BSF and Pak Rangers

With the upcoming visit of home minister Rajnath Singh’s to Pakistan for Saarc interior ministers and home ministers conference, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pak Rangers met in Lahore for three days. From July 25 to July 28, the two forces held talks regarding several issues related to ceasefire violations, infiltration and drugs smuggling.

Director General K K Sharma led the BSF delegation and the Pakistan delegation was led by director general, Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), Major General Umar Farooq Burki. The BSF released an official statement regarding the talk. The statement said that the meeting between two forces was held in a peaceful atmosphere and that both of them wanted cooperation.

The statement also said that both forces agreed that there has been less violations of ceasefire along the border ever since the last such meeting in Delhi in September 2015.

In the talk, the BSF chief talked about how important it is to be vigilant against cross-border infiltration. He said that this would prevent terrorist activities and narcotics smuggling. Both of the sides talked about what can be done to improve security and to coordinate border patrolling on their respective sides. They also talked about ways to address each other’s concerns in a time-bound manner.

This joint talk is supposed to pave way for a better cooperation between the two forces in future. The joint record of discussion which charted a future route map of cooperation between the two border guarding forces was also signed.

BSF invited DG Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) to visit India for the next round of bi-annual talks. According to the BSF statement, the talks between the forces ended positively. Both sides have agreed to maintain peace and tranquility along borders. According to the officials, the border between the two countries has been less volatile in the recent days.
