India and Malaysia to fight ISIS jointly

With the recent terrorist attacks by Islamic State in Nice and Istanbul, India and Malaysia agreed to fight ISIS together. Both the countries will work together to fight the global terror outfit. This agreement happened at a delegation-level meeting between visiting Malaysian deputy prime minister and home minister Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh.

At the meeting, Singh said that India is paying a lot of attention to the danger of increasing activities of Islamic State in democratic countries like India and Malaysia. He also said that the terror outfit is recruiting from both the countries and is luring youth towards their extremist ideologies.

In the past, Singh claimed that the influence of Islamic State in India is minimal. He said that the reason for this is the socio-cultural cushioning provided to vulnerable Muslim youth by their families.

However, in the meeting, he said that both the countries should cooperate with each and address the problem internally. He said that without cooperation in sharing intelligence, it could be quite difficult for both countries to stop the extremist ideology in spreading among the youth.

He added that India is interested in knowing more about Malaysia’s “deradicalisation programme”. He also proposed more regular meetings of the joint working group on counter-terrorism and transnational crimes.

Singh said that India is very concerned about terrorists who plan their terrorist activities from abroad. He talked about the terrorist attacks from across the border with Pakistan, the attack at the Pathankot IAF Station and the attack on CRPF convoy at Pampore.

In the meetings, they talked about how such events add fuel to the fire of large terrorist activities. Singh said he was happy about the close bilateral security cooperation especially on counter-terrorism. He praised the Malaysian government for their cooperation over the last few years.
