150-year-old Kolkata Port Trust to be in Republic Day Parade | Fusion - WeRIndia

The Shipping Ministry will showcase the 150-year-old Kolkata Port Trust in the tableau during the Republic Day Parade.

The Port Trust was named after Jan Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The front of the tableau has ‘Kolkata Port Trust’ in Hindi and English and a logo of its sesquicentenary. It has a tagline, ‘150 Years – Glorious Past. Vibrant Future’.

This year, 22 tableaux will be showcased in the parade. Of these, 16 are related to various states and Union Territories and six are related to various ministries and departments.

The tableau of the Ministry of Shipping is one among them.

While addressing the 150th-anniversary programme of the Trust, PM Modi announced its name change. The Kolkata Port Trust has now become Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port.

Modi said Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was the father of industrialization in the country who made sacrifices for one nation and one Constitution.

The name change was not welcomed by trade unions who protested it saying that it would hurt the history of the organization.

Now, the Shipping Ministry will present it during the Republic Day Parade.

Those want to attend the parade can buy the tickets. The tickets for the parade are sold each year from 7 to January 25. However, tickets for the Beating Retreat ceremony are available until January 28.

Republic Day tickets are priced in the range of ₹20 to ₹500 as per the distance. Unreserved seats are available for ₹20 and ₹50.

Tickets are available at the following places: North Block, Jantar Mantar main gate, Shastri Bhavan near Gate 3, Pragati Maidan Gate 1, Sena Bhavan Gate 2, Jamnagar House, Red Fort, and Parliament House Reception Office.
