India’s 75th Republic Day parade witnessed a vibrant display of cultural heritage and innovation. Here the colourful tableau from Odisha, celebrating women’s empowerment and its rich handicraft and handloom sector, clinched the first prize among the states and Union Territories (UTs).

This prestigious event, graced by French President Emmanuel Macron, saw a plethora of tableaux, each narrating a unique story from various parts of the country.

Odisha’s tableau, which stood out for its vivid portrayal of women’s significant role in the handicraft and handloom sector, secured the top position in the judge’s choice category.

Additionally, it underscored women’s adaptability to technology, showcasing them engaging in cashless transactions and e-platform marketing.

The tableau’s central feature, a large umbrella, symbolized the comprehensive support of the central and state governments for artisans under the Viksit Bharat program.

It also featured the iconic “War Horse of Konark Temple,” representing Odisha’s contributions to a developing India. Also, the divine elephant “Kandarpa Hasti,” symbolized the dedication of Odisha’s women.

In a striking contrast, Gujarat’s tableau, which highlighted Dhordo tourism village, earned first place in the people’s choice category.

This tableau, themed ‘Dhordo: Global Identity of Gujarat’s Border Tourism,’ showcased the unique art and culture of Kutch.

Public voting through the MyGov platform was instrumental in determining the winners in this category.

Tamil Nadu’s tableau, which captured the third rank in the judge’s category, threw light on the historical Kudavolai electoral system from the 10th-century Chola era, marking an early stride towards democracy.

In the people’s choice category, Uttar Pradesh, with its artistic depiction of Ram Lalla and the country’s first-ever operational high-speed regional rapid transit system, bagged the second position, followed by Andhra Pradesh in third place.

A total of 16 tableaux from states and UTs, along with nine from central ministries and departments, added colour and diversity to the Kartavya Path during the grand celebrations.

Some of the states and UTs participating included Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Telangana etc.

The awards for the best tableaux in the two categories were announced and presented in a ceremony at Delhi Cantonment. The ceremony marked a memorable culmination of the Republic Day celebrations.

This event not only celebrated India’s cultural diversity but also highlighted the progress and empowerment within its states.
