Home remedies for Spondylitis

Spondylitis is a chronic condition that affects the spine. In recent days, it is so common that even many youths are suffering from it.

Chronic back and neck pain are common in spondylitis. Other symptoms include, fatigue, chronic inflammation in the lower back, heel pain and bowel problems.

The main reasons are poor posture, lack of physical activity and long working hours especially in sitting position. Genetic factors, stress and obesity also play a crucial role in leading to this condition.

Here are some home remedies for spondylitis:

Good posture prevents several body pains. Check your posture at home or at work. Even sleeping posture is also important. Maintain a well-aligned posture. Make sure to walk in between your work to avoid long sitting hours.

Yoga prevents spondylitis. It even helps treat the condition by easing spinal stiffness and improving spinal flexibility. Asanas like Shalabhasana, Ardha chakrasana, Vakrasana, Dhanurasana and Shavasana help strengthen the spine. However, it is better to consult your physician before performing these.

Warm and cold compresses help provide relief. However, they are temporary. Use ice packs or heating pads on the discomfort areas. Warm bath or shower can also relive the stiffness in joints.

Massage is also beneficial to some extent as it relieves your stress. Make a mixture of clove and garlic by adding them to a tablespoon of vegetable oil. Use this mixture to massage. Massage with clove oil or mustard oil on the affected areas to get relief.

Exercise aids in relieving stiffness. Regular neck exercises prevent neck pain. They also reduce stress due to your daily activities. Look at one side and slowly drop your chin to your chest. Now, repeat it to the other side as well. Do it regularly for five to ten times.
