Urgent alert: PAN-Aadhaar link deadline approaching with ₹1000 Fee | Fusion - WeRIndia

As the June 30, 2023 deadline looms, individuals must urgently link their PAN and Aadhaar cards to avoid repercussions, warns the Income Tax Department.

A fee of ₹1000 is now applicable for the Aadhaar-PAN linking process on the e-filing website.

Previously, there was no fee until March 31, 2022, followed by a ₹500 charge from April to June 2022.

Since July 1, 2022, the fee has increased to ₹1000. Failure to link by the deadline renders the PAN card inoperative, as stated by the Income Tax Department.

To facilitate the payment, PAN cardholders can utilize the e-Pay Tax functionality on the e-filing website. The process differs for customers of specific banks and others.

For Customers of Listed Banks:

• Visit the e-Pay Tax functionality on the e-filing website.
• Provide PAN, confirm it, and share the mobile number for OTP verification.
• After OTP verification, proceed to a page displaying various payment options.
• Click “Proceed” on the Income Tax tile.
• Select AY 2023-24, choose the payment type as “Other Receipts (500),” and continue.
• Enter ₹1000 under the “Others” field in the tax breakup and proceed.

For Customers of Other Banks:

• Visit the e-Pay Tax functionality on the e-filing website.
• Click on the hyperlink that leads to NSDL portal.
• Click “Proceed” under Challan No./ITNS 280.
• Choose (0021) Income Tax (Other than Companies) as Tax Applicable (Major Head).
• Select (500) Other Receipts as Type of Payment (Minor Head).
• Choose AY as 2023-24, provide other details, and proceed.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has granted the last extension for the PAN-Aadhaar link until June 30.

Failing to meet this deadline will render PAN cards inoperative, necessitating the application for a new PAN and subsequent linking with Aadhaar.

It is strongly advised to complete this linkage promptly to avoid any disruptions in conducting various transactions.
