Job Interview: How to Handle Rejection
Being rejected after a job interview is not a sign of failure, the only true failure is when you stop trying, it’s a part of life. Rejection can severely dent your confidence but it gives you the sign to learn the things more. So take it positively “Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.” We all learn new things from our bad and good experiences and interviewing is not different. If you performed to the best of your ability, displayed all your relevant technical expertise, skills and communicated in your most engaging manner in an interview but still turned down, then may be that it was the wrong firm for you.
The job market is getting more competitive by the day. Pre-recession organisations had larger budgets and less lean organisational processes. Thus they were more flexible in their hiring. If a candidate matched 85% to 95 % of their criteria they would consider that a good fit. Now with stricter requirements, companies cannot afford to hire you unless you are a 100% match. You need to understand a logical explanation for the rejection and learn the things more. It is advisable to know about the companies of those interviewing you on social and professional networks. It may be frustrating but practice makes perfect, instead of dwelling on your disappointment, keep your mind focused on other opportunities and continue to present yourself to the best of your ability. Highlight your value in job search. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.
