Modi sworn in as Prime Minister for a historic third term | Fusion - WeRIndia

Narendra Modi has been sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for the third time, matching Jawaharlal Nehru’s historic achievement.

Many senior leaders including Amit Shah also took their oaths as Cabinet ministers in the new NDA government.

The ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan was a key event, especially as Modi has yet to announce his full cabinet lineup.

Around 50 additional ministers are expected to take their oaths soon. This marks a significant moment in India’s political history.

Prominent BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari etc., were among the first to take their oaths.

Party president JP Nadda returned to the cabinet after five years, highlighting Modi’s focus on experience and continuity in his third term.

Foreign dignitaries attending the ceremony included Sri Lanka’s President, Maldives’ President, and Bangladesh’s Prime Minister.

Other notable attendees were the leaders of Nepal, Bhutan, Mauritius, and Seychelles.

Special invitees included workers who contributed to the New Parliament House’s construction and other key projects. Surekha Yadav, the first woman loco-pilot of the Vande Bharat Express, was also invited.

Representatives from the transgender community and beneficiaries of various central government welfare schemes were present, showcasing the diverse support base of the Modi government.

Before the ceremony, Modi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. This gesture underscored his respect for India’s founding principles.

The BJP, led by Modi, formed the government with its NDA partners after failing to secure a majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP won 240 seats, falling 32 short of the majority in the 543-member lower house, marking its weakest performance in a decade.

The newly sworn-in Cabinet includes many prominent leaders from the BJP and a few from Allies.

After the ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu hosted a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan to honour the new ministers.

This third term for Modi is a pivotal moment, promising continuity and a focus on experienced leadership in India’s government.
