Unique medical procedure that saved an old woman
A new medical miracle has happened in a hospital in Chennai. In order to save the life of an 81 year old woman, the doctors conducted a unique surgery. They used a cow’s valve within her heart.
The woman, a cancer patient, has been full of heart ailments since last 10-15 years.
Back in 2004, she underwent a surgery. In this surgery, the doctors implanted a valve within her leaking heart-valve. It has been a tough procedure for the doctors to do an open heart surgery, as she was a cancer patient.
They came up with a different solution and saved the woman. They inserted a tube into the groin of the patient and placed the new bio-prosthetic heart valve within the old heart-valve.
Unfortunately, 11 years later, the patient once more faced respiratory problem and was admitted to Frontier Lifeline Hospital. The doctors found out that the woman’s previously placed bio-prosthetic aortic valve was narrowed and reduced heart-muscle functioning.
In order to save the woman, a unique procedure was tried by the doctors. It is called as ‘trans-catheter aortic valve replacement’. The made a small incision was created in her groin and through a blood vessel, the substitute valve made up of cow’s heart-tissue alongside a tube was taken to the leaking valve and was fixed inside.
