Google apologizes for Modi appearing in Top criminals list
Tech Giant Google has apologized on Wednesday to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his image has begun appearing in the results of the search query “top 10 criminals in India”. The pictures that were included in the search were of 1993 Mumbai bombings mastermind Dawood Ibrahim, American gangster Al Capone, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Once the issue got out, there were many angry responses from political leaders and commentators. Many people expressed their concerns about this issue in Google. In response to that, Google has issued an apology statement for any misunderstanding or confusion that occurred.
The statement from Google said that the results are troubling them and that they are in no way reflective of the opinions on Google. They added that sometimes the results can be quite surprising.
Sometimes, the description of the images, Meta keywords, and the way it is described on the internet can result in surprising results to queries.
Google has further explained that the search results were due to a British daily publishing an image of Modi with improper Metadata to it. The issue might soon be resolved if the metadata related to the photo is corrected. The more tags related to the query are combined to Modi, the more these kind of results could occur. After all, the internet is a large place to control, even for Google.
