Things to know about FSSAI Registration
Every food business operator (FBO) will have to get FSSAI registration as per the rules of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
If you are a home chef, but selling without registration of FSSAI, then beware. It attracts a fine of up to ₹5 lakhs. Or often violators will be imposed with lifetime imprisonment based on the situation.
Here are all the details related to FSSAI registration:
- FSSAI registration is mandatory for all food business operators with an annual turnover of below ₹12 lakhs.
- Those who have a turnover of over ₹12 lakhs will have to get a license from FSSAI.
- Food business operators include manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers, sellers, petty retailers etc. that sell food products.
- Individuals who distribute food in religious or social gatherings other than a caterer will also need registration.
- FSSAI registration or license is a 14-digit number. Registering with the FSSAI is an assurance to your customers that you are selling the quality products.
- If you do not have FSSAI registration, that means you won’t be able to sell your products online or through any food delivery app.
- The FSSAI registration is available for 1 to 5 years. You have to renew your registration after that.
- You have to pay ₹100 for a registration/license of one year. The renewal also costs the same.
- You need to apply for a renewal 30 days before the expiry of the registration. Or else you have to pay a late fee of ₹100 per day.
- As per the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, FBOs selling food without registration are liable to pay a penalty of up to ₹2 lakhs.
- Visit the FSSAI website to get registration. Fill the form with all details.
- Send the necessary documents through email to FSSAI for verification.
- Your registration or license process will be completed after the verification process. It takes 10 to 14 days for the completion of the entire process.
