Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to be launched by PM
PM Narendra Modi will launch ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme on January 22 in Panipat district of Haryana. The scheme is aimed to address the issue of declining child sex ratio (CSR) and to empower the girl child in India. The sex ratio of female to male in Haryana according to the 2011 Census is 879 to 1,000.
The sex ratio of females to males was 945 to 1000 in 1991 which decreased to 918 to 1000 in 2011. The CSR is different in various regions of county. The declining child sex ratio in the country indicates the disempowerment of women in the country.
The scheme is also intended to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination and to ensure the availability of fundamental needs like nutrition, health and education to them. Necessary steps will be taken to encourage girls to express their views freely and they are to be heard without any objection. It also ensures girls to participate in all levels of social, economic, and political leadership actively and equally. Gender equality is to be focused on creating employable opportunities, safety, mobility and justice.
The ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme will be implemented by a national campaign in 100 chosen districts. These are selected from all states and Union Territories. The campaign will be conducted jointly by Women and Child Development, Human Resource Development and Health Ministries.
