It is quite common for most of the Universities to conduct entrance exams in summer season.

This is because students who finish their academic exams are ready to appear for various exams conducted by the Universities.

They need not do much preparation too as they would have prepared thoroughly for their annual exams.

Even though there is a variation in the syllabus, students are ready to finish these entrance exams since they are already in examination mood and do not want to be disturbed from it.

Like every other University, Jawaharlal Nehru University also conducts its entrance exams in the month of May or June for all courses.

But, now the University wants to shift the exam schedule from the normal period to December, starting from this year alone.

These entrance exams are conducted for admission to various courses including undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. programs.

The Academic Council put the proposal two years ago and it was already approved at a Standing Committee meeting.

But, the decision was not implemented as the University wants to study the feasibility.

JNU Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar revealed in a press meet that the entrance exams for the coming year i.e. 2018 will be held in December this year.

He added that a committee had been formed to find modalities to hold the exams.

He also said that the University tries to fill the vacancies in December with faculties in MPhil and PhD courses.

All the centres were asked to inform about the vacancies available.

The administration wing began writing to each centre about this as it is the duty of the centres to inform about the vacancies to the University.

The University will put the information on the prospectus about the vacancies.

However, the entrance exams for various programs, including MPhil and PhD courses, for the current year started on May 16 and finished by May 19.
