University of South Florida (USF) has announced a postgraduate fellowship in the name of the former President of India A.P.J. Kalam. The University has remembered him affectionately as he visited this university in 2012. To honour the former President of India, USF announced President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship.

This award will be offered to a person each year with effect from the 2016-2017 academic year. The probable student who wants to apply for this fellowship should meet the following criteria:

The candidate should be Indian graduate.


He or she must have applied for a PhD degree in the University of South Florida in science fields.

  • The subjects are as following: Applied Physics, Applied Anthropology, Business PhD programs, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology & Molecular Biology, Criminology, Computer Science & Engineering, Engineering, Integrative Biology, Marine Science and Psychology.
  • The student can have the following benefits with this fellowship:
  • He or she gets complete discount of tuition up to four years.
  • The student will get a stipend of $18,000 for a period of nine months for the fall and spring semesters at $2,000 per month for up to four years. The first year stipend for nine months will be paid by the Provost’s Office. And the remaining three years it will be contributed by the department or college.
  • The candidate will be paid by USF if he or she is chosen for this fellowship after his or her enrolment is made at the university.
  • However, the housing at the university and airfare etc. should be borne by the student.
