Government schools are often associated with ageing buildings, broken furniture and dull classrooms.

Yet the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Gorita, Thimmajipet mandal of Nagarkurnool district, presents a very different picture.

The entire campus has been transformed into a vibrant learning space where education extends beyond textbooks and appears across colourful walls.

This change is credited to biology teacher Racharla Narender, who has been promoting visual learning for nearly 27 years.

Since he began his service in 1998, he has transformed plain school walls into creative teaching tools, filling them with scientific diagrams, biological processes and essential academic content.

His visually rich illustrations help students grasp complex concepts more easily and make learning far more engaging and memorable.

Over time, the school has come to resemble a living encyclopaedia, with every corridor and classroom offering something informative.

Narender has explained that, to create a wholesome learning environment, the school chose to paint educational material on walls and corridors.

For younger students, the walls show alphabets, animals, fruits, and vegetables.

Older students see mathematical formulas, chemistry concepts, and English grammar. The grammar lessons include verbs, tenses, and prepositions.

His contribution stands out even more because all the painting is done during holidays, ensuring that school hours remain undisturbed.

He has also been funding the entire initiative himself, guided only by his commitment to improving learning experiences.

The approach, considered highly innovative at the time, eventually received appreciation from academic circles, including recognition from authorities in Delhi.

Over the years, Narender has been honoured with several awards at the mandal and district levels and has been felicitated by various organisations for his efforts.

At ZPHS Gorita, the painted walls now serve as silent teachers, proving that creativity and commitment can transform ordinary spaces.

They reshape the classroom atmosphere, enrich learning and spark curiosity, demonstrating how one teacher’s vision can inspire an entire school.
