ISRO Adopts Drought-Hit Karnataka Village
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been doing many wonders in India. Its accomplishments made the whole country proud and even resulted in international fame for India. Now they have once again decided to do their part to help the country.
Brahmasandra village in Sira Taluk of Tumakuru district, Karnataka is a very drought-affected village. Antrix Corporation Limited, the marketing wing of ISRO decided to adopt this drought-hit village. The main aim of this move is to improve the quality of life of farmers there.
The move by Antrix is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. They will be collaborating along with Bharatiya Agro-Industries Foundation (BAIF) to successfully improve the village. In order to do their mission, they have set a budget of Rs. 3.81 crore for a period of five years.
According to Karnataka’s Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, Animal Husbandry and Muzrai, T.B. Jayachandra, this village was chosen because of the highest number of farmer suicides over the past two years here.
It has a population of 1,420 with 356 households. Most of the village is mainly agriculture-oriented. The aim of this program is to make sure that agriculture, which is primary in the village, becomes a profitable occupation. They aim to create a sustainable model for the village which will have the proper smart infrastructure, hi-tech skills, assets, support services, and market linkages.
They will be providing the village with modern methods of farming to make their job more productive and efficient. They will also be forming a village development committee in order to keep the development of the village going even after the five years.
This initiative to adopt the village will also work to solve other issues in the village, like water scarcity. The village currently gets water which has high levels of fluoride. They do not have proper drainage either. The waste management system will also be provided.
