The Freedom 251 dubbed the cheapest smartphone ever has released yesterday (February 17). It has been designed by India based tech firm ‘Ringing Bells’ as part of the ‘Make in India’ Campaign. The pricing of this phone begins at Rs.251. Even the highest feature model of this phone will be below Rs.500. ‘Ringing Bells’ announced that this phone will be a revolution in the country as was the plan of the ‘Make in India’ campaign.

The sale of the phone will be online through the company’s website. It began today at 6 AM and continues for three days till 8 pm on February 21.

Here are the features and specifications of the phone.

1. The phone has an operating system of Android Lollipop 5.1 meaning it can run most of the apps supported by latest gadgets.
2. It has a 1.3 Ghz quadcore processor.
3. The smartphone also support 3G internet contrary to the belief by many that it will only have basic 2g internet.
4. The expected screen size is around 5-inches.
5. The phone will have an internal RAM of 1GB.
6. It will have an internal memory of 8 GB. However, users can expand the memory to up to 32 GB with microSD card.
7. Camera features of the phone are expected to low end. The phone is expected to have a 3.2 megapixel camera for the rear end and a 0.3 megapixel camera for the front.
8. The phone will have a 1,450 mAh battery. This battery is expected to keep the phone lasting for at least 14-16 hours.
9. The smartphone will come with several popular apps pre-loaded into it. This includes Google Play, WhatsApp, Facebook and Youtube.
10. There are some skeptics about the phone. However, even with such a low price, the manufacturers are giving the buyers a warranty period of one year. In case of any needed assistance, there are 650 service centers all over India.
