Their organization is called Shakti Vahini. It was started in 2001.

They used their father’s retirement money to start this.

When they started it, young men fighting against women’s issues was rare.

They even faced a lot of skepticism.

They worked in remote areas where cases of violence were not easily reported.

They worked with women with HIV/AIDS and even fought against organized crimes like human trafficking, honor killing and violence against women.

Their NGO rescued children and women from brothels. Due to their work, the brothers even faced death threats from anti-social elements.

Every work they did led them to this day when Shakti Vahini works in six states and has many professional qualified social workers.

Ravi is the president of the organization with Nishi being its executive director, and Rishi being a social activist. They have partnered with UN agencies, several international organizations, and even Government of India and different state governments.

At present, they are mainly focused on India’s unbalanced gender ratio and trafficking of poor women and girls. The brothers say that both these aspects are connected. They say that due to the skewed gender ratio, northern states have a shortage of women which is encouraging trafficking of women and girls from poorer eastern regions of India are being used for that purpose. They believe that solving gender ratio imbalance can solve a lot of problems.
