Sunitha’s longest Cycling Expedition for Swachh Bharat Mission
We have seen many celebrities trying to spread awareness about the Swachh Bharat drive. But, meet this lady cyclist who is on a cycling expedition to raise awareness about the campaign. Sunita Kshirsagar Dhote hailing from Nagpur, is a professor at the Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management. She started her cycle from Nagpur on November 7. Her destination is set to Puducherry which is 1,300 km away. She aimed to reach there by November 14 and succeeded. This was recorded as the longest cycling expedition by a female cyclist and it will be held in the Asia Book of Records among others.
Her aim is to get more attention towards Swachh Bharat as she believes that everyone should take responsibility of keeping their environment clean. She is supported by the Lions and Rotary clubs with whom she is associated. She also thanks Naresh Chandra & Co., the oldest cycle shop in Nagpur for providing her with the Scott bicycle.
Sunita, although 41 years old, has the spirit and sense of adventure of a student. Many people think that she is an avid cyclist for taking on this challenge. However, she is in fact not a regular cyclist at all. She hasn’t participated in many cycle marathons. In 2011, she had a long cycle expedition from Goa to Mumbai which was her last long cycling expedition. Now she did this for the sake of the Swachh Bharat mission.
