Chess is one of the fun board games. It has become popular in India. Many kids and youngsters are interested to learn chess and participate in competitions.
One of the reasons for its popularity in the country is Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, who motivated several people to play the game.
Like many, Irondla Akash Kumar from Telangana was also inspired by Viswanathan Anand. He likes the attacking style of Anand.
Akash Kumar is studying class 10 at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS). It is located in Shaikpet.
This young boy won the team silver medal at the 16th Asian Schools Chess Championship. It was held in Sri Lanka last December. Akash participated in the championship along with another boy Ujjain Bhattacharya.
He is going to participate in the World School Chess Championship in April this year. The Championship will be held in Greece from April 13 to 23. He got the opportunity to represent the country there. He is very happy about it.
Akash used to play chess with his father. Though it was his hobby in the beginning, he developed an interest in playing chess later. He started playing chess interestingly when he was in class 5. He read numerous books to learn game strategies and started implementing them in his game.
Apart from his family members, Akash’s teachers and principal also support him. Aiming to become an International Master, Akash does not want to lose any single opportunity for achieving that position.
His coach LV Shiva Kumar appreciates his dedication and hard work to improve his game. He says that Akash’s game improved much during the pandemic
His rating was improved from 1,000 to 1,400. He is a FIDE-recognised player due to improvement in his rating. Akash practices the game daily by waking up early in the morning so that his studies will not be disturbed.
