Irom Chanu Sharmila

The title of Iron Lady of Manipur of Sharmila shows her capability. She hold the record for the longest hunger strike done.

Kittur Chennamma

She is a state rebel queen. Her work during the Indian independence movement dealt a lot of damage to the British. She is known for her leadership in an armed rebellion against the East India Company. She passed away in imprisonment.

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit

Vijaya Lakshmi holds the title of being the first Indian woman to hold a cabinet post. Even more impressive is that she is the first woman president of the UN General Assembly.

Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay

Kamaladevi is best known for her participation in Gandhi’s noncooperation movement. She worked to empower women.

Captain Prem Mathur

When Prem Mathur got her commercial license, she was rejected by eight private airlines for a pilot job because she is a woman.

However, she did not let up and became the first woman pilot in India.

Rani Lakshmibai

She is a warrior queen. She is best known for being the brave rebellious queen of North Indian princely state Jhansi. She conducted a rebellion against the British in 1800s.

The rebellion might have lost, but she was martyred and became a national heroine.

Savitribai Phule

Savitrbai Phule is someone who wanted to educate the world.

Even though she was married at the age of nine, she learned to read and write from her husband.

She opened up the first school for girls in 1848.

Sarojini Naidu

Naidu is an activist and a poet.

She is also the first governor of the united provinces of Agra and Oudh for two years.

Her work got her the title of ‘Nightingale of India
