Student Visa issues in UK to be resolved
During the talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the British PM David Cameron, Modi has raised the issue of the sharp decline of number of Indian students going to the UK for studying. He expressed his concern about the problems faced by Indian students while applying for student visas to study in the UK.
According to an official from Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi has strongly raised the issue of students with British PM Cameron. Modi has stated that the number of Indian students in the UK has reduced by 50 percent in the last three years.
Modi stated that Indian students are some of the best and most talented in the world and it would be of advantage for both countries to have Indian students studying in the UK. He said that Indians who want a quality education and the UK which can use the expertise in those students will both have their needs fulfilled.
Narendra Modi has stated that many countries are actually attracting Indian students because India has the biggest education market today. He said that there are many Indian aspiring to study abroad. He added that this is an opportunity to make use of a big economic market.
The spokesperson stated that Cameron’s response was that this is a matter which needs a lot of understanding and appreciation. Cameron stated that this matter needs further discussion and it is something that cannot be simply closed.
According to a report by the Higher Education of Funding Council for England, the number of students coming to UK was 18,535 in 2010-11. It reduced to 10,235 in 2012 -13. Due to the negative impacts of conservative’s drive to reduce net migration, the recruitment of international students has reduced according to Universities in the UK.
