Shared rides, smarter savings
Rising fuel concerns are pushing many Indians to rethink their daily travel habits.
As petrol and diesel prices continue to strain household budgets, shared mobility is gaining fresh attention across cities.
Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption through practical lifestyle changes.
During a public event in Secunderabad, Modi encouraged people to use public transport, work from home when possible, and adopt carpooling regularly.
He stressed that global energy disruptions and supply chain challenges demand responsible behaviour from citizens. According to him, patriotism also means making choices that support the nation’s economic stability.
Among these changes, carpooling is emerging as a simple and effective option.
When several people travelling in the same direction share one vehicle, they split fuel costs and reduce traffic congestion simultaneously. As a result, commuters save money, avoid parking hassles, and lower daily stress levels.
Several mobile applications now make shared commuting easier and safer.
BlaBlaCar remains a preferred choice for intercity travel. People travelling between routes like Delhi to Jaipur or Mumbai to Pune can reserve seats in private cars at affordable rates.
Additionally, passengers can check driver reviews before booking rides, which improves trust and comfort.
Meanwhile, Quick Ride has become popular among office workers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune. The app supports carpooling and bikepooling while offering features like live ride matching and cashless payments.
Furthermore, users complete verification through office emails and government IDs, strengthening safety measures.
Another widely used platform is sRide. The app includes live ride tracking, UPI payments, and in-app messaging.
Many commuters claim it cuts travel expenses by nearly 70 per cent. Similarly, Hope is attracting urban professionals with intelligent route matching and verified corporate profiles.
As fuel expenses rise further, shared travel may soon become less of a choice and more of a necessity.
Therefore, adopting smarter commuting habits today could help families save thousands of rupees every month while also reducing pressure on crowded roads.
