Less known facts about Cyrus Mistry
Nobody expected Tata’s shocking announcement related to the firing of its Chairman Cyrus Mistry. Cyrus Mistry was appointed as the Chairman of Tata group in 2012. But, he was sacked after a board meeting two days ago. His successor will be appointed within four months now. Ratan Tata was named to be the interim Chairman.
The reason for sacking Mistry was not disclosed by Tata Sons. Yet, some sources state that the business model of Mistry was not feasible for Tatas. Here are some less known facts about Cyrus Mistry.
Cyrus Mistry is a 48-year old Irish-Indian businessman.
He is the second person without having the surname of Tata to be appointed as chairman of Tata Group. Nowroji Saklatwala is the first person.
He is the sixth chairman of the Tata group.
Mistry’s mother was born in Ireland. His father decided to take Irish citizenship as dual citizenship is not approved in India.
He has an elder brother and two sisters. He has two sons.
Mistry completed his school education in Mumbai from the same school that Ratan Tata attended.
Mistry is a permanent resident of India and he is an Irish citizen.
He loves book reading and playing golf in his free time.
Though Mistry does not bear the surname of Tatas, he has a strong relationship with Tatas in one way. Aloo, one of his sisters is married to Noel Tata. He is the half-brother of Ratan Tata. Thus, Mistry is a relative to Ratan Tata.
Mistry’s wife is Rohiqa Chagla. She is the granddaughter of famous jurist M.C. Chagla and the daughter of lawyer Iqbal Chagla.
Mistry’s grandfather is a big business tycoon. He first acquired stock in the Tata group. His father owned 18.5 per cent shares in the company.
He is passionate about cars especially SUVs. He likes horse racing as well.
