Dhoni to retire after this T20 World Cup
Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said he will retire from the team after this T20 world cup. He said this decision comes after a lot of his well-wishers suggested that he leave cricket for better mental and physical health.
“A lot of people think my success is just my luck, but no one realizes the efforts I put in to take my team to victory every time” an emotional Dhoni said, continuing that this kind of stress takes a big toll on him.
He said he even tried to convey to the general public about this by endorsing Revital, a multi-vitamin supplement advertised to keep people “physically fit and mentally alert”, but in the end, he felt it is wise to simply put an end to all this and take proper rest at home.
“I will now get more time to spend with my family, and I can also look into doing other cool things, for example collecting superbikes”.
Dhoni is long known to be a super-bike enthusiast. MS started playing for India from 2004 and holds numerous records such as the most successful Indian captain in Tests and ODIs. He captained the Indian team during the first T20 World Cup in 2007 which India won, and was also the captain of the team that lifted the ODI world cup in 2011.
Speaking about his captain’s announcement, the star player of India Virat Kohli said: “Dhoni felt he has already captained India too many times, and it’s good if he retires and gives other players like me a chance to captain the team”.
As Virat Kohli is the Vice-Captain, he will be promoted as the team captain when Dhoni retires.
Other team players said they will dearly miss Dhoni’s captaincy but support his decision. While concluding his announcement, Dhoni said he will continue playing in the IPL and other minor leagues to keep his love for cricket alive.
