Woolah: Assam's eco-friendly tea bags

In the daily ritual of brewing your morning tea, the environmental impact of conventional tea bags often goes unnoticed.

However, Assam-based friends Upamanyu Borkakoty and Anshuman Bharali are changing the narrative with Woolah, their revolutionary and eco-friendly tea bag venture.

The conventional tea bag, innocently steeped in hot water, releases a staggering 11.6 billion microplastic particles at brewing temperatures.

Recognising this environmental hazard, Upamanyu and Anshuman, founders of The Tea Leaf Theory (TTLT), introduced Woolah. It is a biodegradable and plastic-free tea bag made from leaves.

Woolah tea bags, crafted by TTLT, boast a distinctive design comprising two compressed leaves and a bud, weighing around two grams.

Shaped cylindrically and tied with a raw, naturally grown cotton string, these eco-friendly bags not only eliminate plastic but also enhance the tea’s flavour.

Beyond promoting sustainable living, Woolah has become a catalyst for positive change in Assam.

The innovative tea bags have generated employment for 140 women in the region, providing them with a source of income. In addition, Woolah also supports the education of their children.

Woolah offers a diverse range of tea flavors. These include green tea, white tea, green tea with tulsi, black tea with tulsi, and a mix of all varieties.

The brand not only focuses on environmental consciousness but also caters to diverse taste preferences.

Woolah’s commitment to sustainability is not just a concept; it’s a tangible solution that addresses both environmental concerns and community development.

By choosing Woolah, tea lovers not only enjoy a plastic-free sip but also contribute to a positive impact on local livelihoods and education.

Woolah stands as a beacon of innovation and responsibility. It proves that a simple daily ritual can make a significant difference.

With each eco-friendly tea bag, Assam’s dynamic duo is brewing a sustainable future, one cup at a time.
