The government decided to seek the help of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to help in finding a solution. Now, ISRO will help the government to tackle the problem of water shortage and the reducing levels of groundwater.
With the help of ISRO, the government will be able to identify villages with surface water sources through satellite mapping.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister HK Patil stated that ISRO will be helpful in mapping villages and finding out the availability of the water sources. This will be useful in solving water problems of the state, he added.

Reports state there are certain satellites of ISRO which are equipped with sensitive devices which can identify underground water sources and take high resolution images of them. These satellites are highly useful at spotting water sources like ponds and lakes. The data from these satellites would be used by the government.
Based on the data, the government will take steps to conserve and improve the water resources. Furthermore, the government will also take up projects to drill bore wells suggested by the data to get more water.
