Bihar youth builds electric jeep that runs 100 km on a single charge
Innovation from India’s small towns is often driven by need, skill, and determination.
A young man from Purnia, Bihar, is now going viral for exactly that reason.
Murshid Alam, a local mechanic, has built a low-cost electric jeep that can travel up to 100 kilometres on a full charge.
Remarkably, the vehicle was completed in just 18 days and costs around ₹1 lakh to build.
Murshid previously worked at different mechanic shops after completing his education. Over time, he gained hands-on experience repairing vehicles.
Later, he returned to Purnia and opened his own workshop, which slowly began doing well.
During this period, he noticed a clear gap. Many farmers and small traders needed an affordable vehicle that was easy to run, simple to maintain, and capable of carrying both people and goods.
This observation sparked the idea of building a low-cost electric jeep.
The result is a five-seater electric vehicle designed on a simple and practical model. The jeep uses a battery-powered electric system and includes a separate trolley attachment.
This allows farmers to transport crops, fertilisers, and other materials with ease.
According to Murshid, the jeep takes about five hours to fully charge. Once charged, it can run up to 100 kilometres. It is designed for everyday rural use and can comfortably seat five people.
Despite its low cost, the jeep includes several useful features. These include four wheels, tubeless tyres, a speedometer, a battery charging point, and power steering.
As a result, it is easy to drive and suitable for users with basic driving experience.
Murshid says the vehicle can be sold at around ₹1 lakh, making it far more affordable than most electric vehicles in the market. He believes this innovation can help farmers reduce transport costs and improve mobility in rural areas.
Beyond transport, the innovation also highlights employment potential. If supported, such locally built vehicles could create jobs and encourage small-scale manufacturing.
Murshid Alam’s electric jeep shows how practical innovation, rooted in local needs, can deliver simple and impactful solutions.
