BH Series Number Plates simplify vehicle registration
In 2021, the introduction of BH Series number plates, also known as Bharat Series number plates, aimed to ease the process of vehicle registration for individuals frequently on the move for work.
This article delves into the advantages, features, eligibility criteria, and application process for BH number plates.
The BH Series number plates were conceived to address the challenges of vehicle re-registration when relocating to a new state, particularly for those with transferable jobs.
Under the Motor Vehicles Act, passenger vehicles can only be driven for up to 12 months without re-registration, with non-compliance leading to fines and penalties.
Key Features:
- The series applies to non-transport vehicles only.
- It eliminates the need for re-registration when moving to a different state.
- Also, it streamlines paperwork and saves time.
- The registration is valid throughout the country.
- It features a standard license plate design with white background and black fonts, albeit with a unique number format.
The BH Series number plate primarily caters to specific groups:
- State and Central government employees.
- Defence sector personnel.
- Administrative services employees.
- Bank employees.
- Private firm employees. However, they must have offices in more than four states or union territories.
Vehicle owners seeking BH Series number plates can follow these steps:
- Log into MoRTH’s Vahan portal. Alternatively, you can seek assistance from an automobile dealer.
- If case of dealer is helping, he has to fill out Form 20 on the Vahan portal on your behalf.
- Private sector employees with offices in multiple states or UTs must submit Form 60. They should submit their employment ID and work certificate also.
- Applicants have to select the BH series type while applying and submit the required documents.
- The eligibility of the vehicle owner is verified by State Authorities.
- The Regional Transport Office (RTO) approves the BH Series application.
- Applicants have to pay the necessary fee or motor vehicle tax online.
After completing the process, the Vahan portal randomly generates BH Series registration numbers. These are valid in all Indian states.
Private vehicles registered under the BH Series license plate are subject to road tax for two years or multiples thereof like four, six, and so on.
After 14 years, an annual payment becomes mandatory. The tax rate depends on the vehicle’s invoice price, with lower rates for electric vehicles.
Diesel vehicles incur an additional 2% charge, while electric vehicles receive a 2% tax reduction.
Motor vehicle tax applies as follows:
- Invoice Cost under ₹10 lakhs: 8%
- Invoice Cost between ₹10 lakhs and ₹20 lakhs: 10%
- Invoice Cost over ₹20 lakhs: 12%
The BH Series number plates offer a streamlined solution for vehicle registration, providing convenience and flexibility for individuals whose careers demand frequent relocations.
