Secrets of Draupadi and Pandavas relation

India had a famous practice of polygamy several millennium in the past. One of the most famous examples of that is Draupadi marrying all five pandava brothers.

Although it wasn’t by her choice, Draupadi marrying the five brothers is one of the most important aspects of Mahabharata.

There is quite a lot told about Draupadi, but not much is known about how her relationship is like with her five husbands.

Draupadi was originally to be married to Arjuna. However, when Arjuna takes her to his blind mother and says he has a surprise for her, she replies that whatever it is he must share it his brothers.

According to Mahabharatha, that is the reason for Draupadi marrying all five pandavas and becoming ‘Panchali’.

Draupadi is said to be a strong woman. She knew how to keep all her five husbands happy. Yudhishthira, the eldest of all had the final say in matters. He declared that all the brothers will have exclusive right to her chamber for one year and no one should break his rule.

Anyone who broke the rule should go for an exile of 12 years. Unfortunately, Arjuna accidentally broke this rule because he had to go through Draupadi and Yudhishthira’s chamber to get weapons to help a poor Brahmin.

In his exile, he met and married Subhadra, Krishna’s half-sister and also married Chitrangada later.

Draupadi herself was said to have feelings mainly for Arjuna. While all the other brothers loved Draupadi, Arjuna had no such feelings for her.

Draupadi had one child with each of the pandavas. However, she was very sad when Arjuna married Subhadra.

Draupadi was most loved by Bheem. He always ensured she did not go sad and fulfilled all her wishes. It was Bheem who took down most of Kauravas when they insulted Draupadi.

Draupadi herself made one condition to the five brothers. It is that she will not share a household with any other woman. However, this condition was broken by all five brothers who married other women.
