Interesting facts about Lok Sabha 2019 elections
Today, the biggest battle of polling for Lok Sabha elections starts. The first phase of polling has been started.
The voting will be held in 18 states and two Union Territories in Phase 1 of Lok Sabha elections.
There are 91 seats for which around 1,300 candidates are contesting in this phase.
Here are some interesting facts about Lok Sabha 2019 elections:
- As of January 1, 2019, the total electorate in India is nearly 900 million compared to 814.5 million in previous elections conducted in 2014.
- Around 15 million electors are in the age group of 18 to 19 years. This constitutes 1.66 per cent of total electors.
- There is only one voter who is female in a particular polling station in Arunachal Pradesh. It is Malogam Temporary Structure in Malogam Village.
- The highest polling booth is located in Arunachal Pradesh at an altitude of about 13,583 feet. It is Polling Station No. 18-Luguthang under 3-Mukto (ST) Assembly Constituency. It is followed by the polling station of 21-Gnathang Machong Assembly constituency in Sikkim. This polling booth is located at an altitude of 13,500 feet in Gnathang Valley. Around 180 registered voters are there.
- The highest number of female voters are registered in Meghalaya. These voters constitute 52 per cent of total voters, and out of them, 32.34 per cent are in the age group of 20-29 years.
- The Braille voter ID card is going to be used for the first time in the country by the visually impaired people. BRAILLE EPIC card is issued to them in Meghalaya.
- The enrolment of third gender voters started in 2012. Their number in the present elections is 38,325.
- There are 24 States and Union Territories that have photographs of 100 per cent electors in the electoral rolls.
