India’s first engine-less train to be rolled out

India’s first engine-less train to be rolled out

India’s first engine-less train will go for a trial in a week or so. The train which looks like a bullet train is indigenously built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.

The Train 18, a semi-high speed train is capable of moving at a speed of 160 km per hour.

It is a unique train for Indian Railways. Train 18 will be rolled out by October 29.

This train series will replace the current Shatabdi Express trains.


However, the question is can this train replace the fleet of Shatabdi Express trains as expected.

Indian Railways is expecting to replace its premium chair car trains with this engine-less and energy efficient trains.

This is because, Train 18 will be less expensive in its lifecycle and more efficient. Since it does not require locomotives, it promotes green travelling.

The travel time will also be reduced by 15 percent with the travel in this train compared to that of Shatabdi Express train.

Train 18 has better acceleration than the traditional trains with its more power and smart braking system. The braking system has electro-pneumatic braking that was imported from Hungary.

Train 18 appears like European semi-high speed trains with its classy exteriors and fibre glass covered plastic nose cone.

It consists of 16 coaches with a seating capacity of 1128 passengers.

The posh interiors of the train include automatic doors, vacuum toilets, space for wheel chairs and disabled friendly restrooms.

It also has Wi-Fi and GPS-based Passenger Information System.

With this super features, the train is much awaited.

The IFC will start working on Train 20 after the successful launching of Train 18.

Train 20 will have aluminum body which gives more aesthetic look. It is lightweight and energy efficient.
